About

Hi! My name is Jenny Sunshine, and supporting the Veteran community has become something very close to my heart.

I became heavily involved in Calgary’s Veteran community in 2021, first volunteering at Veteran events and trade shows for about two years.

After that, I began volunteering weekly at a Veteran food bank, where I spent a year washing dishes and helping with their weekly Veteran support dinners. I also assisted behind the scenes with their supporter database and social media engagement, helping with outreach and keeping supporters connected and informed.

My involvement continued to grow, and I eventually joined the organization as Director of Marketing & Communications. In that role, I also worked directly with Veterans, coordinated events, organized individual and group volunteers, managed social media and communications, and helped connect people with the support and resources they needed.

Over the last five years, I have had the privilege of meeting and working with many incredible Veterans, families, volunteers, organizations, and community supporters. During that time, I began noticing an important gap.

It wasn’t necessarily a lack of services — it was a lack of awareness of what was already available.

The federal government allocates millions of dollars through grants and contribution programs that fund organizations, programs, research, and initiatives designed to improve the lives and well-being of Veterans and their families. There are also charities, non-profits, community organizations, and businesses investing their time, money, and resources into supporting Veterans.

The help is out there — but Veterans need to know it exists and where to find it.

With so many programs, benefits, services, organizations, and eligibility requirements, finding the right support can be overwhelming — especially when someone is already going through a difficult time.

That is why I created Alberta Veteran Support Services.

I wanted to build a simple one-stop resource hub where Veterans and their families could easily search for the support available to them, with information gathered together in one convenient place. I have spent countless hours researching organizations, programs, resources, and community services to help make that search easier.

I also wanted this website to go beyond support services.

Over the years, I have met many incredible businesses that proudly support our Veteran community through discounts, special offers, sponsorships, donations, and community involvement. This website is also a place to discover Veteran-friendly businesses, upcoming Veteran events, and community activities.

Most importantly, I want every Veteran who visits this website to know:

You are supported. You are appreciated. You are not alone.

Your service and sacrifices matter, and there are people throughout our communities who genuinely care, remember, and want to help.

Thank you for being here and for Supporting Our Veteran Community Together.
